Why it's Important to Harmonize with the Cycle
There is much value in harmonizing with the cycle because it introduces synergy into
the Brainstorming Process. This is just one reason why understanding the cyclical
nature is important. There are other reasons this is important also!
Cycles always seek balance. For example the rotation of the earth, and the earth
being on an axis, introduces seasonality. Our seasons provide weather conditions
both for harvest and preparation periods. By preparation, I am not referring to
man working with seeds and soil and so forth. I am referring here to natural
preparations.

Short Cuts Feed the Problem and Amplify Demand for Creativity
What I mean by preparations is how soil is tended to and prepared by insects and other natural factors during
the various weather change phases. As these contributing factors lean out of
balance, the result is a natural pursuit back towards balance again.
For example, there are times when extreme weather conditions will affect the
crops adversely. During that period, the result is few crops. However, over time
as balance is sought, crops will go back to normal. Over time you will see a
season where crops way exceed expectations. Why is this? It’s because that
extreme crop production makes up for the previous lean crop season. It is for
this reason that commodity exchanges sell and buy “futures” as an economic way
to keep the balance. Many things in life follow this balancing act and
creativity is no different on a global scale.
The creativity cycle works something like this: Many new products, services,
etc. are introduced. This results in many life changes. These changes, in time,
spread globally. Globally people begin to settle into those changes at this
phase. At this phase what was
new and novel is now expected and becomes just another commodity.
Short-Sightedness makes conditions worse!
Instead of introducing new innovations business leaders seek the shortcuts, the
so called “low hanging fruits.” Because only incremental improvements take place
during this part of the cycle, profits result only from savings rather than new
revenue sources. Once smaller savings are captured via economies of scale and
efficiencies, soon to follow are the layoffs. Jobless people turn into fierce
competitors who in turn scrape off market share. Further loss of market share
develops into more layoffs and so on, further feeding the problem.
As the balance is lost, creativity begins to pick back up. When balance is lost
in the extreme creativity comes about by force of nature. In just a short time
innovation becomes the only way out. Business leaders are not asked or persuaded
to look towards creative thinking people, they are forced into the corner.
Whether business leaders like it or not, intuitive, creativity experts become in
high demand.
Demand for Creativity

are totally new, they will seek to expand to fill desires of the consumer
universe. This phase is much the same as water that seeks its own level and you
cannot stop it!
At the end of the day this means jobs—lots of jobs. As the workforce base begins
to dry up, natural demand kicks in and wages are forced up. Why are they forced
up? Smart business leaders know there is a short window of opportunity to
capture market share before competition steps up to the plate. Therefore, if
they don’t push to market, they could lose the lion’s share. To tear people away
from their current jobs, business leaders must up the ante.

There is a lot to digest about this creativity cycle. But you need to come away
from this with several important points:
- When extreme imbalance exists in this cycle, then creativity experts are at the
pinnacle of demand. When you become recognized as a brainstorming creative
individual, companies will seek you out. They will hunt you down and they will
do whatever it takes to get you on their team.
- Large budgets will open the way for innovation. The force of demand wrenches
open company pocketbooks wide because it becomes a last stand, a do-or-die
situation. If these companies don’t get something new on the table fast, then
they will no longer exist, which means those who demonstrate brainstorming
creativity scale up into very high positions very fast. And money is thrown at
them in large chunks.
- Understanding the creativity cycle demonstrates its influence and how it
generally works and resolves imbalance. By virtue of problems, gaps, failures
and all the negative outcomes, they result from the imbalances; hence, broad
innovation becomes the only cure. Imbalance resolves to balance as innovation
becomes the direct response to the problem. This cycle then makes us aware
problems are friends to brainstormers. Problems are our targets. They are the
signals for action.
- Natural Cycles as the creativity cycle present tremendous force that cannot be
ignored. Of course, at the edge of imbalance, creativity experts have tremendous
success in every way just like Thomas Edison and many, many others. Creativity
experts enjoy the incredible sense of value during these periods. The final point
is the most important thing you need to realize. You don’t need
to be in extreme imbalances to be innovative. No matter where we are in the
Global cycle, creativity innovation will always produce powerful good outcomes.
Understanding the pervasiveness of the Creativity cycle should give you more
courage and more reason to build your skills in creativity. You should now
recognize where we are at in this cycle. You should brainstorm at every
opportunity that presents itself. Search out problems, gaps, failures or
anything that just isn’t hitting the mark. Recognize these predicaments as your
friends. Skills in creativity are built by knowledge, use and especially getting
in harmony with how you are hardwired for creativity. The more in synch you are
with the creativity process, the faster and easier you will innovate. Have fun!
