Why would billionaires be interested in Hip Hop?
An interesting article found in Forbes magazine described this young man and
some of his successes. Kasseem Mike Dean is better known as Swizz Beat in the
Hip Hop world. Hip Hop is where he began his creative career at the age of 16.
Kasseem’s father is a Black Muslim and Kasseem’s mother is Puerto Rican. Both of
his parents are near and dear to Kasseem.
Important to note is that Kasseem’s successes are not limited to the music world
and yet he has been the backbone of more than 100 million records being sold
from some of the world’s most famous artists. Kasseem is known for laying down a
music track in as little as 15 minutes. Amazing creative skills but there is
something more important that you can learn from this and I will come back to
this point about laying down music tracks in 15 minutes.
The Forbes magazine article starts out with this regular meeting Kasseem has
with these influential powerful people I referred to earlier. Is this meeting
about music? Is the meeting about hip hop? Is it about some famous artist and a
music release? The answer is none of the above. These moguls are meeting with
Kasseem entirely for his creativity expertise. This particular meeting is all
about the future and the media experiences that will capture the world market of
tomorrow.
This is just one example of what these people look to Kasseem to help them with.
And it is because of the value he brings to them that they don’t care how old he
is or where he is from or who his parents are. Nothing matters except his
innovative ability.
In Forbes’ article, an important factor is revealed that
harmonized with the Creativity Process and I said I would come back to this
point. Kasseem is known for laying down music tracks in as little as 15 minutes.
A music track is the fundamental theme, rhythm and beat of a musical piece. It
is the core concept of a song. Usually the final music cut is a matter of mixes,
edits and modifications before its ready for the final mix and delivery. Forbes
pointed out that Kasseem can make upwards of $250,000 for each one of those
tracks. But here is what we want to learn from this. Kasseem has intuitively
learned a very important secret about creativity. That important secret is
speed!
Why is speed important?
Speed forces you not to evaluate your ideas. It sounds
like a dichotomy but instead, this harmonizes with how you are hardwired for
creativity. Speed positions your mind to make mental jumps. Speed facilitates
leaps and hops that can only be described as “fuzzy logic.”
By channeling and centering your thoughts on a target problem theme and then
combine that effort with speed makes your mind perform these hops and leaps that
are responsible for totally unexpected and unexplainable idea paths. No time for
evaluation is the method that is responsible. This is one of Kasseem’s secrets to his creativity
success and will perform just as well for you because you are no different than
him.
If you learn anything from this article learn that speed actually harmonizes
with how you are hardwired. Also learn that age, background, parents and culture
are in no way barriers when you understand and use the creativity process. You
will be valued for your creativity talents. Leveraging speed and how to evaluate
results comes later in the process. Master these principles and advance your
creativity, influential contacts and your career!
